How to split a PDF

  1. Drop your PDF onto the box above, or click to browse.
  2. Click Split PDF — each page becomes its own PDF.
  3. Download the ZIP, then unzip it to get every page as a separate file.

What splitting a PDF does

Splitting takes a multi-page PDF and separates it into one PDF per page, each an independent document you can share, print or re-order on its own. It's the opposite of merging: instead of stacking files together, it breaks a bundle back into its individual pages. Because every page is copied as-is into a new file, nothing is re-compressed — text stays selectable and images keep their full resolution — and the pages are packaged into a single ZIP so you get one tidy download instead of a flurry of separate prompts.

Common reasons to split a PDF

  • Separate a scanned bundle back into individual documents so each can be filed on its own.
  • Pull the pages of a multi-page contract apart to send only the relevant ones.
  • Break a combined statement or report into per-page files for easier reference.
  • Split a batch of receipts scanned into one PDF into a file per receipt.
  • Turn a many-page form pack into single pages you can route to different people.

Why browser-based splitting keeps your files private

Many "split PDF" websites require you to upload your file to their servers before they'll process it — so your contracts, statements and IDs pass through a computer you don't control. Here, everything is handled by pdf-lib running directly in your browser, and the pages are zipped locally too. Your file is never sent anywhere. Once the ZIP is downloaded you can close the tab and nothing persists: no server copy, no account, no deletion email to wait for.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere to split it?
No. The split happens entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. Your PDF never leaves your device, so there is nothing to upload, store or delete afterwards.
Does splitting a PDF reduce quality or re-compress the pages?
No. Each page is copied as-is into its own new document, so text stays selectable and images keep their original resolution. Nothing is re-rendered.
How many pages can I split at once?
There is no fixed limit. Every page becomes its own file in one step, and because the work runs locally the practical ceiling is your device’s memory — a very large PDF just takes a little longer.
Why do I get a ZIP instead of separate downloads?
Splitting a multi-page PDF produces one file per page, and downloading them individually would mean many browser prompts. Bundling them into a single ZIP gives you one clean download that unzips into all the pages.
What are the split files named?
Each page is named after your original file with a page number appended — for example report-page-1.pdf, report-page-2.pdf — so they stay in order when you unzip them.
Can I extract just one page instead of every page?
This tool splits every page into its own file. To keep a single page, split the document and then use only the page file you need from the ZIP.
Does it work with scanned PDFs?
Yes. A scanned PDF is a standard PDF whose pages contain images. Each scanned page is copied into its own file exactly as it is.
