Why use a WiFi QR code?

How a WiFi QR code works
A WiFi QR code encodes your network name (SSID), password and security type in a standard text format (prefixed WIFI:) that smartphone cameras understand. When someone points their camera at it, the phone parses those credentials and offers to join the network directly — no copy-pasting a password, no risk of a typo. iPhones from iOS 11 onward and most current Android devices handle this natively.
Choosing the right security type
- WPA / WPA2 — the standard for virtually all home and business routers produced in the last decade. Choose this if you are unsure.
- WPA3 — the newest standard, available on more recent routers. Select it only if you know your router supports it.
- WEP — an older, weaker protocol. Only needed for legacy equipment; replace the router if you can.
- None / Open — for networks that have no password, such as a public hotspot you control.
- Hidden network — tick this box if your router does not broadcast its SSID; the QR code will include a flag so the scanning device searches for it explicitly.
Print it for guests, cafés and offices

- Almost every modern home and office router uses WPA or WPA2, so choose WPA / WPA2. Pick WEP only for old equipment, or No password for an open network.

- iPhones running iOS 11 or later and most modern Android phones with up-to-date camera apps support WiFi QR codes natively — no third-party scanner needed.
- Does it work for hidden networks?
- Yes. Tick the “Hidden network” checkbox when entering your details. This embeds a flag in the QR code that tells the scanning phone to connect to the SSID even though it is not being broadcast.
- Should I download PNG or SVG?

- Is it safe to display the QR code publicly?
